investor's business daily documents media bias ...
by following the money.

An analysis of federal records shows that the amount of money journalists contributed so far this election cycle favors Democrats by a 15:1 ratio over Republicans, with $225,563 going to Democrats, only $16,298 to Republicans.

... As if to warn their colleagues in the media, MSNBC last summer ran a story on journalists' contributions to political candidates that drew a similar conclusion:</p>

"Most of the newsroom checkbooks leaned to the left."

This slipped my mind...
I remember someone sent me this link last week, and I somehow blanked it out.  It's 80s bad... awesomely bad. I love it.  It's imbued with so many fond memories.  Maybe a few of you have seen it too.

I warn you... it's wonderful and horrid all at the same time...

The Mega Man 9 Box art.

Enjoy.

Note: it in no way means that Mega Man 9 will have a physical box.  But I'd buy a cart if they released one.

A Libertarian Argument for Universal Healthcare--WTF??
Maybe this is from that strange breed of left-libertarianism I brought up before. While searching for an article to back up an argument I was making, I stumbled upon this.

If libertarians truly believe that the only suitable role for the government is the defense of the people, then doesn’t a basic guarantee of healthcare fall under that category? Why can’t the government act as a broker on behalf of its citizens?

A fair bit of it rails against libertarians who have jumped into the GOP's pants, but the second half focuses more on universal healthcare (with an ending about joining the Democrats). Thoughts?

This episode I talk about Diablo 2, which seems fairly relevant with the upcoming release (whenever it is) of Diablo 3. I also rant for a while about Viacom forcing Google to give it (Viacom) user histories of everyone who's registered on Youtube. Kinda sickening, and not gaming-related, but I bet a lot of you would be concerned about it. Enjoy!

The "SuperHappy Party" - SERIOUS humor for a hump day OMG...
In my end-of-the-day, work-on-Libertarian, never-ending

we are on the ballot in the state for Presidential elections

There are no deficiencies. We are fine.

We will condition all heterosexual males to like women
better, to want to marry women, and to want to give women
more wealth and to buy every woman a house!
We like women and we want women to have more
wealth and education and we want classes
to ensure that heterosexual men will give women respect and
that heterosexual men will give women more wealth, assets,
and property!

We want heterosexual men to give women
more money, more wealth, and support women
in getting more evolving scientific education.

We want 100% of all women to get advanced evolving
education, including PhDs, MDs, and/or law degrees.

The salute of the Superhappy Party is:

We want to create the most intelligent and scientifically
evolving world ever.We want every woman and every man to
live in tremendous wealth.
We want every woman and every man to have more money, more
houses, more assets, more property, more wealth, more
advanced scientific education, etc.We want every woman and
every man to live in so much wealth that every woman lives
like a wealthy queen or princess with artificial
intelligence robotic servants and every man lives like a
wealthy king or prince with artificial intelligence robotic
servants.

He then repeats IN SPANISH and goes ON... including the following under points of view -

6) All judges, lawyers, district attorneys, and police officers will be required to get at least one PhD in an academic field of psychotherapy, psychology, psychoanalysis, neuroscience, and/or behavioral neuroscientific conditioning and an additional PhD, MD,and/or law degree.

GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS NEED TO STOP MAKING PEOPLE "FEEL BAD" AND STOP GIVING "REPRESSED EMOTIONAL FEELINGS!"

There shall be no more courtrooms that make people "feel bad" by accusing them of being guilty with a "mean looking" district attorney that makes you feel bad (gives you an unpleasant neurostimulus and an unpleasant memory). Courtrooms shall be superhappy environments designed to have huge happy faces everywhere and these neuroscientifically trained PhDs (instead of mere judges and lawyers that have no neuroscientific PHD

Next Xbox will be "Xbox 720?"
I heard somewhere (probably in OXM magazine) that the next Xbox will be called Xbox 720.

I wonder if all the achievements we earn on Xbox 360 will be transferred to Xbox 720?

example: you have a gamerscore of 10,000 from playing Xbox 360. I wonder if when 720 comes out, you can continue that gamerscore starting at the score you had when you still had 360, and the games you play on 720 will add on to that current score. That way, you never have to lose your gamerscore, even when new xboxes come out from microsoft. that would be cool.

Verbatim off the BobBarr2008.com website...

The Final Decision on West Virginia
July 22nd, 2008 by Staff

Please excuse the rushed tone of this message but the situation is heating up in West Virginia.

When I wrote to you on Friday, I had until the close of business on Monday to raise $43,000.

I have good news and bad news.

The bad news is that we fell about $3,000 short of our goal.

The good news is that over 662 supporters donated to our effort and we were able to raise $40,030! Thank you!

Our campaign manager, Russ Verney, is a hard-nosed guy but he recognizes that the support is there and, while it’s a long shot, we still have a chance to make it on the ballot in West Virginia.

Russ has given me the green light to continue the drive. We’re going to go for it and I’ll need your help more than ever.

I’ve been on the ground in WV for less than a week and have been able to get 18 petitioners hired, trained and working.
West Virginia Ballot Access
That’s not enough, I need 30 more people by the end of the week.

I had been assured by the state employment agency that they would help hire local petitioners to fill the gap. That fell apart yesterday when they informed me that there was not much that they could do because of internal policies.

You’ve gotta love bureaucracy . . .

In order to make up the shortfall in manpower, I’m going to need to fly in more people immediately.

I’m going to make a big request that I need you to seriously consider. This is an “either/or” so please read and consider both options:

EITHER . . .

Visit the “Wild and Wonderful” state of West Virginia!
If you’re willing to petition in West Virginia and can take time out of our schedule until August 1st. I need you here by Friday.

It’s beautiful country, with nice people, and you’ll be supporting a great cause.

If you can take the time to come to West Virginia for the duration (August 1) and are comfortable asking strangers to sign a piece of paper, please contact me immediately by calling 877-465-6080.

OR YOU CAN . . .

Sponsor a petitioner to travel to West Virginia!
If you cannot take the time out yourself, I completely understand, but you can still help in a very big way by sponsoring someone who can make this short-notice trip.

Each supporter that can petition for Barr/Root is going to cost at least $250 to travel plus about $50 a night at a not-so-luxurious hotel. Please make a donation and cover what you can.

A $50, $250 or even a contribution of $25 will help us cover these added expenses. Click here to donate.

Please give us a hand with this effort as there are only nine days left to get the job done.

THANK YOU for your continued support. We could not do this without you.

Very Respectfully,

Shane Cory
Deputy Campaign Manager
Bob Barr 2008

P.S. Please consider the two options above as soon as you can. To donate, click here.

SEC petitioned about global warming fraud
SEC petitioned to warn companies against making false and misleading claims on global warming; Misinformation puts investors at risk, says Free Enterprise Action Fund (Ticker: FEAOX)
For more info contact: Steve Milloy, 301-258-2852, steve@feafund.com

Washington DC, July 23, 2008 - The Free Enterprise Action Fund (Ticker: FEAOX) submitted the following letter to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requesting the SEC to warn publicly-owned companies against making false and misleading statements concerning global warming:

Ms. Florence E. Harmon
Acting Secretary
U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
100 F Street, N.E.
Washington, D.C. 20549

Re: Petition for Interpretive Guidance on Public Statements Concerning Global Warming and Other Environmental Issues

Dear Ms. Harmon,

We are writing on behalf of the Free Enterprise Action Fund ("FEAOX"), a publicly-traded mutual fund, to petition the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC" or "Commission") to issue interpretive guidance pursuant to the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934 ("the Act") that would warn registrants against making potentially false and misleading statements pertaining to global warming and other environmental issues.

We believe the Commission should take action immediately to protect investors.

I. Examples of potentially false and misleading statements made by registrants.

Below are but a few examples of the sort of potentially false and misleading statements being made by registrants. The problematic nature of these statements is discussed in Section II.

* Exelon Corp. issued a media release and placed full-page advertisements in major newspapers on July 15, 2008 stating, "The science is overwhelming -- climate change is happening now and human activity is the primary cause."
* Lehman Brothers issued a report on climate change featuring the so-called "hockey stick" graph to support the notion that humans are causing global warming.
* The General Electric Company issued a "Call for Action" to "slow, stop and even reverse the damage of greenhouse gasses."
* Toyota Motor Corp. states in a report, "When we drive a vehicle, it consumes fossil fuels and emits CO2, a major contributor to climate change."
* Goldman Sachs states in a 2007 report, "By now, the dynamics of global warming are widely known, and we find no reason to dispute the scientific assumptions."
* Caterpillar said in a public statement that, "We must take action now [to reduce carbon dioxide emissions] or risk serious harm to our planet."

All these statements are potentially false and/or misleading as recent events show.

The rest is here.

Not really an audio engineering question per se, but I figure you guys would know.

Is there any way, using CD formatting, to hide a track between two others? Like, say.. okay. Let's say you have tracks X and Z, and you want to hide track Y between them. Is it possible to set it so that if you fast forward past the end of X you get to track Y (and X and Y are basically one CD track), but if you let it play normally it goes straight from X to Z? Sorry if I haven't made this very clear :P

And are there any other fun ways of hiding stuff on CDs? The fast-forward-past-the-silence-on-the-end-of-the-last-track thing is kinda tired now. I hear you can also set it so that you can hide stuff before the beginning of track 1 that you can only access by rewinding (I believe Muse did it on Hullabaloo).

Anarcho-capitalist police procedural?
I happen to be a fan of TNT's The Closer. I was thinking about the most recent episode, in which Deputy Chief Brenda Lee Johnson (gotta say the whole thing) told Lieutenant Flynn that they couldn't "pick and choose which laws applied to which people." That got me thinking about anarcho-capitalism and law enforcement, and more specifically, could a TV show about a private police force in Ancapistan work?

Firstly, I'm looking to links and documents about police in Ancapistan and how law functions, but I'm also looking for more creative suggestions from you. What do you think should be put into a show about Ancap cops? What should be the setting? Could it be future or alternate history? What would make it different from all the other police shows out there today? I'm not really sure of anything at this point (even the title is up for grabs) but I am sure that a few of you have creative skills and some ideas (and URLs) to share.

Although the most important question is one no one may be able to answer: would anybody actually watch it?

Psych-Folk Festivals?
I am wondering if there are any festivals going on in the VT or NH areas anytime soon? I do know that there are many "folk" festivals ( great woods, falcon ridge, etc) in the NY and MA areas, but I am also curious if there are any new-folk or psych-folk shows in VT, Upstate NY/Adirondacks, or NH. I'm hoping that there are some in VT because gas is so insane right now.
